Lederhosen and Dirndls: Munich Purchasing Guide

Sep 8 2025

A solid set of Bavarian attire won’t change how the beer tastes, but it will absolutely enhance the authenticity of your Oktoberfest experience. While wearing lederhosen or a dirndl is not required, most festivalgoers will be dressed in traditional clothing. Having your own outfit will help you blend in with the crowd and avoid standing out as a tourist.

Many of our clients arrive in the morning and look for ways to fill the time before hotel check-in. Picking up your Bavarian outfit is the perfect way to pass the time while taking care of an essential part of the experience.

We strongly recommend trying everything on before buying. European sizing can be inconsistent, and lederhosen are famously unforgiving—especially after a few Oktoberfest brews!

If you prefer to shop once in Munich, options abound—literally on every street corner near the Oktoberfest grounds, just steps from your hotel. Many vendors are cash-only, and you can expect to spend around €150-175 per person. For a wider selection and higher-end options, several specialty shops and a large department store in Munich’s Old Town also carry traditional attire. There will also be a plethora of pop up shops around the Hauptbahnhof (Think Spirit Halloween types of storefronts). As these are confirmed, we will update options.

Want your outfit in hand before you hop on a plane?

If you’d like to be prepared before arriving in Munich, we’ve partnered with a U.S.–based company that offers high-quality products and free returns. There’s still time to order the perfect outfit through Bavaria Trachten (Link HERE). Use the code “bucketlist” for 10% off.
