After a delay due to COVID-19, the Summer Olympics in Tokyo have begun. Here’s how to watch the Tokyo Olympics, both live and delayed on NBC-related channels, apps or streaming.
The time difference makes live viewing a bit of a commitment. Tokyo is 13 hours ahead of the Eastern Time in the U.S. and 16 hours ahead of Pacific Time. But with a little planning and sleep deprivation, you can catch the events live.
Where to Watch the Summer Olympics
NBC has the television rights to the Summer Olympics and will be showing the Games on NBC, NBCSN, USA, CNBC, the Olympic Channel, the Golf Channel, Telemundo and NBC Universo.

Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony
Although the Summer Olympics have already begun, the Olympics Opening Ceremony doesn’t take place until Friday night, Tokyo time. It will be broadcast live in the United States starting at 7 a.m. Eastern on NBC and streaming on NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app. NBC will also replay the festivities in prime time Friday night.
Summer Olympics Events by Day
There will be 339 medal events over 41 sports. New events this year will include 3-on-3 basketball, karate, skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing.
Softball, soccer and shooting have started before the Opening Ceremony. All other sports kick into gear starting Friday, July 23, with the first medals being awarded in a range of events starting Saturday. For a day-by-day calendar of events, click here for a full Olympics event schedule.
