Experience Salzburg and the Austrian Alps

Home to The Sound of Music

Located just 90 miles from Munich, the city of Salzburg and the Austrian Alps are a perfect addition to any Oktoberfest package. Known as the birthplace of Mozart, Salzburg claims much of its global fame as the setting for the the 1965 film The Sound of Music. Filmed in both the Salzburg city center and throughout the nearby hills and mountains, The Sound of Music brought the city of Salzburg into the homes—and hearts—of millions across the globe.

One of the first natural features you will encounter during your visit to Salzburg is the Salzach River. The river divides the city into two distinct banks. Hohensalzburg Fortress, one of the oldest medieval fortresses in the world, sits atop the dramatic city mountains that rise high above the heart of the old city. Known for its distinct Baroque architecture, Salzburg is also home to the Getreidegasse, a world-famous shopping street featuring both modern and traditional stores.
