When is the next Winter Games?

The 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games will be held in February of 2018.

The opening ceremonies will be on February 9, 2018, with the closing ceremonies happening on February 25, 2018.

The Winter Games last a little over two weeks between the two ceremonies, and during this time, there will be 102 events in seven different sports with the sports being divided between 15 different disciplines.

The only requirement for U.S. citizens to visit is a valid passport valid at time of entry.

How Much will the PyeongChang Winter Games Cost?

The expected cost of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games is $13 billion USD. This pales in comparison to the over $50 billion USD spent in Sochi in 2014.

Where is the 2018 Winter Games?

The 2018 Winter Games will be hosted by South Korea. The host city for this is Pyeongchang, which is nestled in the Taebaek Mountain area of the country. This host city is located in the Gangwon province and is east of the capital city of South Korea, Seoul.

This is the first time that the Winter Games will be held in South Korea, but Seoul was once the host city for the Summer Games. It will also be the host of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Paralympics in the following March with many of the venues for the Games being used for the Paralympics.

How do you get to the Winter Games?

For many people, the best way to get to the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games will be by air travel. The airport that is closest is the Incheon International Airport located in Seoul. This is expected to be the main airport for the games, but there’s also the airport in Yangyang, but that is not a very busy airport for international flights. They do expect an uptick in these numbers for the big event. Wonju Airport is another potential airport you could fly in. There’s a train line that is expected to be finished in time for the Games which would be an hour-long ride from Seoul.

How much are tickets for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games?

Tickets for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games are expected to be anywhere between $17 to $768, and this large difference in cost may vary depending on the event and the demand for tickets.

Many of the events are expected to have tickets for $70 or less to attract visitors. Tickets for the opening and closing ceremonies are expected to cost between 192 to 1,310 dollars. Tickets to the men’s hockey final are expected to be the most expensive along with figure skating. It is believed that the number of tickets that will be made available to the public for the different events will be a little over a million tickets.

When visiting the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games, it’s important to check the State Department’s website as this will give you all the information you need to keep in mind from traveler’s warning to local laws you need to know before traveling.

To enter the country of South Korea where the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games will be held, you’ll need a valid passport with at least one page available for your entry stamp. As you’re more than likely going to be staying for less than 90 days, you will not need a tourist visa. There are no special vaccines or other restrictions listed as of December 2016.

Many events, like hockey, curling, and speed skating takes place on numerous days during the period of the games making any day a good choice.

What kind of transportation is available at the Winter Games?

There are only a few ways to get around the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games during your visit. There are a few city bus lines that visitors will be able to use during their visit to the city. As this may not be accessible to all of the areas you want to visit in the city, there are also taxis that can be used.

The base rate will be about 2,800 won, and that increases by 200 won for every 152 meters. This may sound expensive, but the exchange rate as of December 2016 means that 2,800 won will be a little over two dollars.

What are other cities to visit in Korea?

One of the closest cities that people will be visiting during the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games is Seoul as this is where most people will be flying into the country. This is the capital city of the country and offers some spectacular sightseeing before heading to PyeongChang. Not only is it the capital, but it’s also the largest metropolis area. Over half of the population of South Korea live in this city in addition to over half a million international residents that call the city home.

What are historical landmarks near the PyeongChang?

There are a number of historical landmarks to visit during the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games. There is the Hyoseok Cultural Town, Baengnyong Cave, Potatoflower Studio, Eoreumchi Village, Woljeongsa Temple, Herbnara Tourist Farm, Jeonggangwon, and Korea Botanic Garden. You may also choose to visit some of the more historical areas that can be found in the capital city of Seoul during your stay in the region.

The Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) is one of the hugest draws in the area as well. You can tour the border area of South Korea and North Korea, which is still technically a war zone. It’s about 6 hours away from PyeongChang, so it’s best to do as a separate day trip from Seoul.

What restaurants should I try near PyeongChang?

There are two restaurants that you should try when visiting PyeongChang. The first is Paldo Myeon Ga, and this restaurant has been around for almost 30 years. Some of their famous dishes include broiled eels and spicy stir-fried chicken. You can expect a meal to be about 10,000 won or more per person, and as of December 2016 that would be about nine dollars.

The second is Youngchun garden that is famous for traditional Korean chicken, and a stewed chicken using traditional medicinal herbs. A meal will cost you about 20,000 won or more per person, which is about 18 dollars.

Who gets invited to the Winter Games?

The general public is invited to purchase tickets to attend The 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games. There are a little over a million tickets available to the public, and they expect about 90 percent of these tickets to be purchased by visitors seeking to see the games.

It’s believed that about 70 percent of these tickets will be purchased by South Koreans. The athletes that are invited to the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games will be based on their performance in qualifying events leading up to it.

What items are prohibited at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games?

In South Korea, gambling, guns, and drugs are all illegal and are prohibited. The official list of items that are prohibited at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games has not been published yet.

At previous Games, some items that you were not allowed to have on your person while at an event included pyrotechnics, flares, fireworks, smoke bombs, candles, guns, toy guns, replica guns, poisons, containers of gas, any flammable liquids, items that can be considered weapons such as knives, scissors, hammers, bats, needles, screwdrivers, signs of protest, handcuffs, ropes, laser pointers, handheld communication devices, skates, skateboards, non-service animals, selfie sticks, helmets, and glass containers. Some exceptions to these rules included personal cigarette lighters, guns carried by law enforcement, and equipment used for people with an impairment like an oxygen tank.

Before visiting the venue, it’s a good idea to double check with the security standards in place as these could change right up to the event.

Who are the mascots of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games?

There will be two mascots for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games. There are Soohorang and Bandabi. These adorable mascots are clearly recognizable creatures. Soohorang is a white tiger, and Bandabi is a bear. These are sure to be so popular that there will be merchandise featuring them for the games.

What venues are at the PyeongChang Winter Games?

There are two different locations where the venues are located at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games. The first is the Pyeongchang mountain cluster, and the section is the Gangneung Coastal cluster.

Located in the first area is Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium, the Alpensia Biathlon Center, Alpensia Ski Jumping Center, Alpensia Sliding Center, Alpensia Cross-Country Skiing Center, and the Yongpyong Alpine Center.

Located in the second area is the Gangneung Oval, Kwandong Hockey Center, Gangneung Ice Hockey Center, Gangneung Ice Arena, and the Gangneung Curling Center. There are two stand-alone venues, Bokwang Snow Park for snowboarding and the Jeongseon Alpine Center for three different alpine sports.

There are a large number of sponsors for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games. These include McDonald’s, The Coca-Cola Company, Bridgestone, Atos, Dow Chemical Company, General Electric, Panasonic, Procter & Gamble, Toyota, Samsung Electronics, Visa Inc., and Omega SA, LG Electronics, Korean Air, KT Corporation, Naver, Lotte, and more. What countries did PyeongChang beat out for the 2018 Winter Games?

There were two other countries in the running against PyeongChang for the 2018 Winter Games. These included Annecy in France and Munich in Germany. They won the vote handily with 63 votes compared to the 25 for Germany and the seven for France. This was the third time that PyeongChang had put a bid in for the winter Games. They had lost out to Vancouver, Canada and Sochi, Russia previously.

What is the population of PyeongChang?

The population of PyeongChang as of 2013 was 43,666 people. This equals about 80 people per square mile. The area itself is about 565.12 square miles. The dialect that is spoken in this area is Gangwon.

What are the best tips for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games?

There are a number of tips that you should keep in mind for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games. The first is that there will be a strong security presence throughout the area for the Games, but that you should still be aware of potential travel dangers that could happen anywhere.
