About the UEFA Champions League

Why You Want to Go

Soccer is the world’s favorite sport, and this fact makes no exception in Europe. The UEFA Champions League final match is a meeting of the continent’s greatest athletic talents and oldest rivalries. The atmosphere for spectators is full of team pride and energy. You will want to brush up on your chants! And if you want to try to be on an international broadcast, bring your best fan attire and a witty sign to catch the attention of the cameras.

The 2018 Champions League final will take place in the Olympiyskiy Stadium in Kiev, Ukraine. Over the past few years, Kiev has emerged as one of the Eastern Europe’s top tourist destinations due to its totally unique blend of modern and ancient. With cathedrals dating back almost a thousand years, as well as very hip music, nightlife, and restaurant scenes, Kiev may just be the coolest city that isn’t yet on your travel radar. Plus, Ukrainians love soccer. The whole city and all its bars will come alive with team spirit during the weeks leading up to the final match. The Champions League final is an awesome excuse to travel around one of the most up and coming destinations in Europe.

The Olimpiyskiy Stadium

The Olimpiyskiy Stadium has a history as fascinating as the city it calls home. Originally built in 1923 after the Russian Civil War, just after the Red Army seized control of Ukraine, this stadium came to be an important symbol of Soviet Power. Closed and reopened many times before the onslaught of WWII, the dust finally settled and the stadium enjoyed regular usage following the ’40s, even going on to be a main venue during the 1980 Summer Olympics in the Soviet Union

Located in the Pechersk neighborhood of Kiev, Olimpiyskiy Stadium has hosted many important sporting events since the fall of the Soviet Union as well. With capacity for 60,000 spectators, it is the second largest stadium in Eastern Europe after Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

You wouldn’t know just by looking at it, but Olimpiyskiy Stadium is more than 90 years old!
